TOMO NAKAYAMA HAS A sweet SYNTH-POP ar valentine FOR YOU

Indie artist Tomo Nakayama, in partnership with Popins, has created a joyful 3D video Valentine for fans meant to get everyone on their feet and dancing. Anyone in the world with a smart device can click a link or scan the QR code on a physical Valentine to bring Tomo and his music to life.

“Recording a song in 3D that people can bring up whenever they want and watch in their own space is a new way of performing music for people and I’m excited to be one of the first to do it.” - Tomo Nakayama

Born in Japan and raised in Seattle, Washington, Tomo Nakayama is an artist whose melodic, complex and emotionally compelling music has been praised by NPR, the New York Times, and The Stranger. Tomo’s original song “Get To Know You” is from the synthpop album "Melonday", released during the pandemic. Co-produced by Yuuki Matthews (The Shins, Teardrops, Sufjan Stevens) and mastered by Dave Cooley (M83, Paramore, Tame Impala), “Melonday” was named a Top Album by Seattle Times, KEXP, and Seattle Metropolitan and debuted at #1 on KEXP's NW Charts.

An active, longtime member of the Seattle music and arts community, Tomo has curated and produced various events for Forterra (Ampersand Live) and Town Hall, where he also served as Artist in Residence. He also composed music and appeared as an actor in the Lynn Shelton film “Touchy Feely”.

In a recent interview with KEXP’s Martin Douglas, Tomo said “Just releasing that album during a global pandemic has been like a real mindfuck. It’s an album that’s meant to be played on a stage with a lot of people dancing.” He adds “It really felt like the world was going to end, and it still might. But I was like, ‘This is the album I want to make before I die.’ A really fun, big-sounding pop record. Cornelius was a huge influence, just the way he incorporated visuals into his stage shows was super inspiring and made me think about the presentation of music differently.”
