Not with Popins. Popins utilizes a technology called “volumetric video” to create lifelike 3D content. Today, only a handful of volumetric video studios exist around the world. Most of these studios charge artist fees in the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to create 3D video content.

Popins takes a different approach. Today, Popins charges artists nothing to create 3D holographic music videos and other content. Popins produces the digital assets and makes them available to smart devices around the world.

Any revenue is split 50-50 between Popins and the artist.

For artists, Popins currently covers the cost of creating the 3D master performance at no cost to them. Any revenue earned is split 50-50 between the artist or controlling party and Popins.

On-demand Popins are filmed in our volumetric video studio in Seattle, Washington. Artists are surrounded by 51 depth-cameras as they perform live, just as if they were in a TV studio. Popins films the experience as a single take, then processes the footage over the next few weeks, turning it into a 3D asset. Artists are usually in and out of the studio in just a few hours.

Popins Live are real-time, live sessions with artists connecting with fans as holograms. We produce Popins Live sessions in our Seattle studio or our mobile studio, which can travel to artists. Artists stand surrounded by 8 depth-cameras and can communicate with and be seen by up to 50 viewers at a time, from wherever the viewers are in the world.

Volumetric video is a technology that uses multiple cameras to capture an object in real time, and then weaves each recording together through software to create a seamless 3D digital asset that can be viewed from any angle. Popins are future-proofed, capturing the artist in full holographic form as they are today, a moment-in-time which will then live on as a lifelike digital version of the day. As new augmented and virtual worlds are created, the hologram is capable of traveling into those worlds.

Like “the Metaverse”, “3D” has become a term with many meanings. With Popins you can see the artist as they really are in-person, captured by over 50 cameras to show us every nuance of their being, from front to back. Popins is “real” 3D.

Fans can watch the artist perform on repeat and on-demand from all angles, and make them giant, tiny, or even walk on water.

3D content distributed as a Popin is available to any fan with a smart device anywhere in the world without the need to download an app or pay a fee.

On-demand Popins are designed to allow artists to monetize their content through sponsorships, advertising, digital collectibles, per play, and more. Our proprietary branding solution provides elegant and persistent AR advertising and marketing opportunities.

Much like traditional music videos, Popins include an artist credit on the bottom left of the screen. In addition, Popins creates a persistent banner placement for sponsors, owners, or other attributions. These credits are included on UGC photos and videos created by fans and posted to TikTok and other social media platforms, potentially creating enormous value.

Live Popins can also be monetized through ticket sales or even Cameo-style models.

With Popins, you can watch augmented reality, record what your phone sees, and even join in to create your own personal mix that you can share on your socials.

Popins believes that artists should control and be compensated for their creative works.

The artist and Popins will mutually agree on any distribution plans. Any revenues will be split 50-50 between the artists and Popins.

Artists are responsible for ensuring that any underlying content rights (publishing, master, PROs, etc.) are cleared for Popins scenarios.
